To Sell Old Jewelry or Not

My mom and I had always been together all our lives. She was a very competent single mother. She knew when not to give up and when to take a rest when we experience problems in our lives. She was very strong that I always get power from her. The only thing she fails on is on financial matters. She could not keep up with financial responsibilities even if she has to work day in and day out. She just could not get the right formula to be good with money. It’s not always enough. I have always told her to sell old jewelry from her closet. But she keeps insisting that her mother, my grandmother, just gave it to her since she could not give her anything before she died. She was pretty sure that it does not cost any amount. It’s fancy, she always say.

One day, not giving it much thought, I tried sending one of the old jewelry to an online company. My mother did not know that I was actually selling jewelry online to try our luck. And to utter amazement, the company sent a check instead of returning the old jewelry. It was after all real. I talked to my mom about my experience. She was more than surprised. She contacted the company and asked them if we could send more for proper appraisal. The company was more than willing to appraise and they have truly appraised it well. My mother was able to overcome with her financial problems. It was indeed a good revelation.

I had been selling jewelry for as long as I can remember. I’ve been doing this for quite some time now and I have a trusted store that I go to, whenever I want to sell my jewelry. That is until I’ve learned that I was getting less for the price that I deserve. I recently discovered this, when a friend recommended that I try to change my preference. He showed me a store where you can sell your valuables, and be paid at least three or five times than the usual payment that I get from my old store. When I learned about this I felt like I had been tricked, that was the day that I changed stores.

Selling old jewelry out of necessity is common nowadays. I do it to support myself because I am independent. The price that I got from my new store is indeed re-assuring. I guess I won’t be selling a few of my prized possessions for a while. Maybe I should invest it for a business and make it grow. I’ve been thinking of opening a small ice cream shop in our neighborhood. It should be a good start, and the money that I got would be more than enough. But, in case that it won’t be enough. I’ll know where to go and I know that they would not cheat me. I learned my lesson well.

Thought That Selling Coins Would Be Easier

I thought that selling coins would be easier than what it has turned out to be. I found some old silver and gold coins in the attic of our new home and the old owners told me that they were definitely not theirs, so I could do whatever I wanted with them. I figured that since they were so old, they might be worth thousands of dollars.

I looked online about selling old silver coins and the best people to contact when trying to do that in my area. I made two separate appointments with coin dealers to see if selling coins to them would pay off. I made sure to make them about an hour apart so that I had enough time to get across town.

The one thing that I learned, that if you are selling old silver coins then you really should do your homework of what they are worth before talking with any dealer. The dealers want to give you the least amount of money that they possibly can but you have to make sure that it is fair. I had no idea if it was fair or not. One dealer offered me fifty dollars and the other offered over five hundred dollars. Of course I want to take the five hundred but what if they are actually worth more and I could get double that amount.

Deciding To Sell Silver Dollars Or Not

I only want to ask a few dealers how much I can get if I do decide to sell silver dollars that I have stored away in my attic. My father had collected them for years and he gave them to me when he was downsizing last year. He told me that he knew they were worth some money but not sure of the exact amount. I thought about having them appraised but forgot after they were put in the attic.

Now, I have a friend who is really down on her luck and needs a little help right now. I think that if I talk to someone who can help me sell silver dollars, not all of them but a few then I am going to help her. I wonder how many people have handled selling silver dollars to help out a friend, probably not too many.

I know that my father would be proud of me for selling silver dollars and helping my friend and he would have done the exact same thing in my shoes but I do not plan on telling him if I do go through with it. The less he knows about any problems, mine or friends, is for the best.
